Three out of three. So far, I'm sticking to my plan at European Champs in Sweden. I was thinking a lot of running all three individual disciplines or not, in the end I decided to do so.

What happened so far at EOC? On the first day, the Middle Qualifications took place and the gaps were rather small, as expected. The course was not that difficult and even small mistakes could have thrown you out. I had a solid race without any technical big problems and finished on place 14.

After some national competitions a few less important relays, I had the first real challenges last weekend in Sweden. First, on Friday, Silva League Sprint and Sunday, last leg in 10Mila with OK Pan Kristianstad.

Well, at the sprint, I destroyed my hopes for a top ranking already at the first control, losing about 20 seconds.... In the end place 17, but still less than one minute behind the winner, Scott Fraser.

The last weekend was the first real summer weekend in Austria, with about 30 degrees J At the Austrian middle distance Championship (for men only) on Saturday and Austriacup on Sunday, most runners were still used to temperatures around the freezing point. Anyway, the surroundings for the competitions couldn’t have been better, with a nice finish area at the Gmünder Blockheide, a technically interesting forest and cosy temperatures.

I really looked forward to this competition, because I...

Looking back on last weekend’s competitions, I’m both disappointed and satisfied. On Saturday, I got the silver medal in the Austrian sprint Championships (a total fourth place). I was very satisfied with my race, except of one stupid mistake to the 17th control, a rather easy looking control, but I just couldn’t see it and continued too far. So, I lost any chance for the victory, which then was clearly taken by Robert Merl. Matthias Müller and David Schneider were placed in between. My club...

Today, we had our long distance selection race for both, EOC and WOC....

My race was fine, except of some stupid mistakes (see GPS File). In the end, I was lucky to win a few seconds ahead of Robi Merl.

It was my first long distance this year, important to get a good feeling for longer races, concering concentration, focus... before the the first internationl long distance races come....

The day after coming home from the training camp in Hungary, I went to Southern Sweden to participate in my first 7manna. As it is very close to Kristianstad, we had several teams on the start line. I was supposed to run the last leg. After the three night legs we were on place 3, some minutes behind the two leading teams of IFK Göteborg and IK Hak. After the restart in the morning at 8.30, the sun didn’t want to come out again and it even started to snow. When I headed into the forest, our...

Well, no way to improve my 5.000m personal best, what a pity! Well, last Saturday I was still optimistic to improve my poor 15:36, although there were some heavy winds. After some laps I realized that I won’t make it under 15:30. In the end, I finished in 15:51, some seconds behind Robi, who will do a good job in the future, I’m sure…

Right afterwards, our team transferred to Pécs, Hungary, to do some “Doline Hopping”. If you have never been there, you have definitely missed something. Nice...

Last Saturday, I returned from my high altitude training trip to Kenya. Looking back, I can say, that I really enjoyed the camp in a very nice and friendly environment. Insight in both Kenyan training and daily life were impressive. I added some more images to the Picture Gallery. Relating to training, the last two weeks in Kiambogo were composed of higher training amount and higher training intensity.

The first pre-return day, last Sunday, I tested the hypothesis, that there is a...

We’ve already spent 10 days in the Kiambogo training camp in Kenya. After a few acclimatization days, Christian and I started to implement some more demanding trainings into our training plan. Nomen est omen: in the run2gether team – camp, you always have the possibility to go a run with one or two or more Kenyan runners. Especially during the uphill parts, a common sentence we get to hear is: “Come on, close the gap, close the gap”… I prefer making interval trainings in a group, as it’s...
